DMR Talk Group Pet Peeve

Lately more and more people have been jumping over to DMR. I think this is great, but I see some problems with it to.

  1. I have have heard lots a stations rag chew and tailgate on main talk groups like TAC 310. Sometime I have to wait for an hour to be able to unlink from TAC 310 so I can move to another talk group.
    • How a talk group should work.
      1. If you want to rag chew, round table, or have any type of long discussion outside of the scheduled Nets. Move to another talk group that is less busy or move to a private call.
      2. A short QSO is fine, but keep it short. There are others that would like to use the talk group to pass on information. Or contact a station to meet in another talk group.
      3. PLEASE do not tailgate, DMR is not like regular radio. You can't just spin the VFO and start talking on another talk group. You have to unlink from the talk group before you can link to another. If someone keys up on a talk group and its to busy for their liking. If stations are tailgating their transmissions, that person will not be able to unlink until the traffic slows down. So please allow some time between transmissions, 15 seconds or so should work.
  2. Stations with new equipment or new to DMR need to test and practice on the audio test or parrot talk groups. Test your hotspots to make sure you have your offsets tuned right. Listen to the audio and make the proper adjustments to your audio levels.
  3. Over identifying is another one, every 10 minutes is the norm according to the FCC. The only time you should ID in less time than that is if you changing the QSO to another station or directing the conversation to another station.
I'm sure this list will grow as time moves on, but we have to start somewhere.
